Whole Foods Coming to East Naples
Whole Foods Is Coming to East Naples: What the New Vitano Development Means for the Davis Boulevard Corridor
East Naples continues to attract significant new investment, and one of the most important projects yet is taking shape at Davis Boulevard and Santa Barbara Boulevard.
The proposed Vitano development will transform approximately 82 acres into a large mixed-use community combining new residential neighborhoods, shopping, dining and preserved natural areas. Perhaps the biggest news is its anchor tenant: Whole Foods Market.
A Second Whole Foods for Collier County
Plans call for a nearly 32,000-square-foot Whole Foods Market, giving East and South Naples residents a much closer alternative to the existing Whole Foods at Mercato in North Naples.
But Whole Foods is only one piece of the project.
Current plans for Vitano include more than 20 additional retail spaces, approximately 200 for-sale townhomes and 422 multifamily residences, bringing the residential component to roughly 622 homes.
A substantial nature-preserve component is also incorporated into the master plan.
More Than Another Shopping Center
What makes Vitano particularly interesting is the combination of residential and commercial uses.
Rather than creating another conventional strip center along Davis Boulevard, the project is designed to put hundreds of residences alongside grocery, restaurant and retail uses. Current leasing materials describe Vitano as a Whole Foods-anchored shopping destination within a master-planned community of more than 600 residential units.
That creates the potential for a more integrated neighborhood destination where residents can live close to everyday shopping, dining and services.
The Davis and Santa Barbara Intersection Is Changing
Vitano isn't happening in isolation.
Additional commercial development is proposed around the same intersection, including new retail directly across Santa Barbara Boulevard. That project is marketing approximately 20,000 square feet of additional retail and restaurant space.
Taken together, these projects could substantially change the character of the Davis Boulevard and Santa Barbara Boulevard intersection.
Another Sign of East Naples' Transformation
For years, many of Naples' higher-end shopping, dining and development projects were concentrated downtown or in North Naples.
That's changing.
New residential communities, infrastructure investment and commercial development are steadily moving east and southeast. The arrival of a brand such as Whole Foods is particularly noteworthy because major retailers generally make location decisions based on population growth, household demographics, traffic patterns and anticipated future demand.
Vitano therefore represents more than a new place to buy groceries. It's another indication of how developers and national retailers are viewing the future of the East Naples and Davis Boulevard corridor.
When Will Vitano Be Built?
The project is still working through the Collier County planning and permitting process, so plans and timelines can change.
Current reports indicate the developer is targeting 2027 for groundbreaking. That means residents shouldn't expect Whole Foods to open immediately, but the direction of development at this intersection is becoming increasingly clear.
The Bottom Line
East Naples is evolving quickly.
Vitano's combination of Whole Foods, additional restaurants and retail, more than 600 residences and significant preserved open space adds another major piece to the transformation already occurring along the Davis Boulevard corridor.
For homeowners and buyers, these developments are worth watching. New commercial amenities don't automatically translate into higher property values, but improved access to shopping, dining and services can influence how buyers perceive a neighborhood and where future housing demand develops.
